Port Canaveral Florida was just one of our destinations last weekend during our weekend get-a-way. It had been 5 years since my last trip to our Atlantic Coastline and this trip was a vacation Ronnie & I both needed.
Jetty Park was one of the places Ron & his best friend Joe used to go surfing, so he wanted to take me there. We visited several places in the Port Canaveral/Cocoa Beach area of the Space Coast.
There was a casino cruise about to depart from port but most of the cruise line docks were empty. I don't know how many cruises still depart from Port Canaveral but I do believe it is fewer than it had been.
We were just south of Cape Kennedy, it was a Friday night and the last shuttle had just returned to the Cape two days earlier. Every restaurant along the waterfront was packed!
Since we had eatten just a couple of hours earlier, we weren't planning on stopping which was good - the parking lots were overflowing and people were everywhere!
So I took the opportunity to take a few photos and we took a stroll around the waterfront before moving on.
We did find a group of artists that had set up booths near the waterfront and I managed to get a few photos. It is hard to believe that we will not be launching Space Shuttles from Cape Kennedy anymore. Both Ron & I grew up with the Space Program, we both remember the first American in space, that first walk on the moon.......it was a sad feeling, being there and knowing it was over............
Ronnie commented that the pier at Cocoa Beach was nothing like it had been when we were growing up, it was really crowded with little parking available.
I found this building across from Ron Jon's Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach - the Guided Missile Local of the AFL-CIO. That was interesting................
As dusk fell, we headed south along 1A toward Melbourne Beach and on to Vero Beach. It was a peaceful drive and the perfect ending to a perfect day.
