Any Spam Better Not Come Around Here!

Real Estate Broker/Owner with New Paradigm Partners LLC EB #1326335

I think I need new glasses and a much better keyboard.

A while ago, I wrote a brief post about my annoyance at the spam prevention thingy that AR uses when you attempt to send an e-mail to another member. While it is designed to keep bots from spamming us with e-mail messages, it also does an excellent job of keeping us from easily communicating with each other.

Since I wrote that post, I've made it a habit to capture some of the more ridiculous unusual sets of "words" we're required to enter in order to be allowed to send our message. It's often frustrating, if not impossible, to get it right, but my annoyance has changed to amusement - these words are funny, it's become a challenge, and I have to admit I don't see much e-mail spam here.

Here, for your enjoyment, are some examples:

And my all-time favorite:

Thanks, everyone for your comments.

Lenn - Yes, they certainly seem to work. I think my record is six tries before I got one I could read.

Krystal - Sometimes the words are upside down - and I haven't figured out whether to type them the right way, or backwards. Usually, I give up and moce on.

Mike - I tried it with a couple of drinks, and I thought I recognized a few words in Klingon.

Anne - I always copy my message before I try to send it - you never know...

I know what you mean. I really have a lot of trouble with some of those crazy capcha words.

Dick, We've had a few that there is just no way to interpret.  Hit enter, get the error message and hope the next one is better :)

Dick, you beat me to a blog on this one.  I sat looking my screen the other day for what seemed like an eternity.  I kept thinking, "Do I have those characters on my keyboard?"  Oy vey!  But, I do understand the need for them.  Suggested!!

I hope that every one realizes one doesn't need both words.  The darker one that's out of focus is typically the one that needs to be entered.  The symbols, unusual ones can be ignored.

Dick - excellent post on one of the annoying things that happen to us daily in ActiveRain!  BTW - Gabe just commented that we only have to type the first word - I did not know this and will give it a try.

Dick, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who has problems with these. One time I had to resort to the audio version to get it to work.

Hey Dick-this is a good one, I often wondered why they are getting so strange. When it all started it wasn't this blurry or is it just my aged eyes?

I've gotten use to them, even when I don't get them the first time. Craigslist captchas are often harder to decipher. Too bad we still get a heap of spam despite all this.

You've had some really weird ones. I've never had ones that were this difficult. Nice post- different.

Gabe was correct - I tried it this morning and you don't have to type both words in, although I'm still not sure how to choose the right word to enter (in cases where is is less obvious - I actually saw once once where one of the "words" was part of a musical score). That should make this a bit easier to use.

I hate these things.  Trying to decipher them to leave a comment or send an email is silly and honestly, doesn't stop the spam.

LOL on this, esp as today I tried to register my site on Bing and I kid you not, it took me 14 tries to get the code right!

What are you supposed to do w/ the Chinese one?  Pass.

I like Mike (#3)'s comment.  I think I might have to have a beer to type any of those.

Thanks for another great laugh.  I don't know how I missed this the first time around!
