SUNDAY BLESSINGS ~ BE JOYFUL IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES
Learning to be joyful in all of the situations and circumstances in our lives is a tough concept. It is a biblical concept first and one that is easier said than done. As I have lived my life thus far on this earth, we live our lives in the ebb and flow of joy, sorrow, fear, elation, love, loss, success, failure, laughter and sadness.
It is easy to be joyful in the good times no doubt. The challenge comes in looking for joy during the tough times. I believe it is something we learn to do as we wade through the tough times. This is certainly not to diminish the extreme toll that tough times etch our lives. What I mean, is that when we can go through our sorrows and maintain an attitude of hope, joy will eventually find its way back into our lives.
As I went through the myriad of tests, doctors, surgery and recovery last summer this lesson became very real and very clear. As I was told in the beginning news of learning about a massive lung tumor that was hiding in my body, the hope and news was not good. Each day was a struggle to maintain a sense of "life" and hope.
I am thankful for my faith, my friends and my family who all helped me get back to the joy in life. There were dark days but as I looked at the people in my life, I never truly lost that spark of joy. I believe this is one of the elements that helped me get through it all.
The lesson for me - even in your darkest moments, look for that glimmer of light no matter how tiny it might be. As you meander through your days, being able to find joy in all things will bless your life more than you know. Being joyful in all things, tough to do but so worth it.
