Pay it Forward - Back to School With Dignity

School Supplies Pencils Erasers August 07, 20102Every year Rockland County Board of Realtors in conjunction with People to People’s Back to School with Dignity program helps to provide much needed essential school supplies to kids from low-income families.

Donations of notebooks, binders, folders, pens, pencils, colored pencils, index cards, calculators, backpacks, memo pads, graph paper, paper dictionaries, dividers, 5 subject notebooks, etc. are dropped off at realtor offices in the county and then collected by the Realtor Board for donation to People to People where volunteers are on hand from late August through early September to fill backpacks with all the school supplies for distribution to needy school children.

Thanks to the help and generosity of the county realtors, the students of Rockland's struggling families are given the opportunity to begin their school year with dignity and confidence.  They will be collecting supplies for the next two weeks, between August 1 through August 15, 2011.

When you're out shopping for school supplies, remember to Pay it Forward and pick up some extra items to fill those donation bins for the less fortunate children in the county and help them start their school year with dignity!

Great Idea, Leah, and just in time for school too. Collecting those school items for the kids in need is right on time.

It's sad that at such a young age they could feel the pressures of not "being as good as" the child next to them. But it most certainly happens and in this day and age it's probably felt as early as kindergarten. I'm sure the boxes of crayons and other things donated brightened their day and lit up their little faces!

Jerry - Thata's the idea.

Roger, I answer to both, but Leah is preferred, thanks.  The new school year is representative of a fresh start and seems to come along with new shoes, new clothes, new books and new school supplies.  It's tough for those kids who don't have it and can't keep up.  This is just a small way to help.

Margie - For the kindergarteners its a passing and fleeting pain but the older they get the more they feel different.  We can;t change it all, but we can all do our own small part to make a difference and it all adds up.

Lora.  These assistance programs are crucial to kids and their families during these days.  Our Church is doing something similar, we purchase a backpack, then include a $20.00 so the family has funds to purchase for their child's needs.  Great to see the Realtor community engaging in this!
