About That Debt Ceiling Thing ...

"In the best of times, our days are numbered anyway. So it would be a crime against nature for
any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly, that it put off enjoying those things for which we were
designed in the 1st place: the opportunity to do good work, to enjoy friends, to fall in love, to hit a ball,
and to bounce a baby."

~Alistair Cooke~

For those of you who have no clue on what I'm writing about, good for you.  I don't necessarily consider you wise because of just that, but the hype this whole "Debt Crisis" has gotten is probably just that, HYPE!  And for one reason or another, you haven't bought into it.

While we are the first to point fingers at our elected leaders for their shortcomings, the ones we really need to watch are the Media.  Not one entity, whether it be Big Oil, Liberals, Conservatives, or certain parts of New Jersey makes as much money off our fears and our curiousity more than the Media ... in all its forms.

Will you get your Social Security Money this week?  Yup.  How do I know this?  Check your bank account or mailbox later this week.  Then we can talk about confusion, fear, and what reading the Internet & watching Television can really do to a person.

Should we spend less as a Nation, a Family, as Individuals, of course!  But look at what as been manufactured now.  The Debt-Ceiling has been raised more than Ron Jeremy's libido with the implementation of fake tits if you look at history.  But now it is some sort of do or die issue.

We aren't anymore ideaologically divided now than when Kennedy was Prez, when Lincoln was Prez, or when Thundercats was a popular TV Show in the 80's.  Look at history.

And it is going to be tough every step of the way and our beloved Media will continue to garner ratings and make a dime or three because of our general fears.

But as I meander through my thoughts on all this, I keep coming back to the quote from Cooke.

Because that is what really matters in the end.

Sardi - I stopped listening to the bobbleheads on the debt when the king bobblehead compared the rest of the bobbleheads to his childrens homework assignments.  At that point, the whole nonsense crossed into the territory of absolute foolishness.

On that note, get back to bed, and just be happy.....

yep....those in charge know exactly what they are doing...kicking the can to those who come next, while they bounce the baby. Not exactly your point, but the truth as I see it

While your point is well taken, we cannot afford to assume all will be right with the world.

These days there are just too many people willing to kick the can down the road for someone else to pick up.  Until everyone comprehends that we must stop with the finger pointing, and name calling long enough to have an adult conversation about what we realistically can, and cannot pay for now, and in the future there needs to be some panic.  After all, the reason we're here in this "panic" situation is because all of our elected officials were more than happy to enjoy the day while worrying about paying for it another day.  Politicians, and the general public are more than happy to give in to the children, and let them have free ice cream for dinner so long as they don't have to confess to the fact it was a combined effort to screw over the next generation.

Today is the other day.

I saw that, Gail.  And yeah ...

Ron - I agree with you 100% man.  Perhaps the nature of this post was to help (in some very minor way) add levity to a situation that certainly needs to not only be conversed about intelligently, but solved.  Make no mistake about it though, it wasn't just our elected officials who put us in a challenging position .. it was us.  It was me.  I'm not sure about you or your particular situation.

We don't agree on many things, however I certainly respect how you articulate your position.  It was  and is a combined effort and I hope, not intentional.  I'm glad about the fiscal conversation; somewhat cautious about the approaches I see and hear.  For the record, I like the way you think.  I like to learn ... despite what my GPA in College reads;)

Karen - I suppose it easier not being in charge.  But being in charge deserves every scrutiny that is America.  Even Glenn Beck's.

Donne - Appropriate song choice.  The one thing I will say about Obama (whom I voted for and may again) is that he is the very Politician that I thought he wasn't.  My bad.  I'm not quite sure if someone who isn't a Politician can win in this climate.  Even if they start rogue, maverick, or whatever ... the system in place demands they do things the Corporate Way.  We are a Corporate World.  While history tells me that isn't necessarily a bad thing, the only things Obama has changed is some of the conversations.  And some of them needed to be changed ... and history will tell the tale.  I'm quite certain at this point you can't have a quasi-successful and popular President without an extreme backlash to the very idea of it being a reality ...

Saunders - You are too good to me:)

Saunders - You are a wise soul and a intelligent man and I learn deeply from you.  Shit, all I can say is Thank You.  If I was in charge of the ship, you'd be more than a sailor.  The alternative viewpoints I read from you are typically graceful, genuine, and many times spot-on.   I don't mind being wrong if I can find what is right ...

Rob - There is a Yin/Yang to everything in this Life.  I appreciate many Eastern Philosophies while knowing that Communism wasn't a good idea in reality.  Go figure.

Than - No argument here.  It should be discussed every year and maybe even every day.  Between families, friends, political parties, etc.  I believe the Debt Crisis in this case was probably a manufactured political war, which would be par for the course across the board.  But I'm all for mature discussion and appropriate implementation ... NOW who wants to see me MOONING the Constitution?  :)

MJ - Let's get serious.  You ARE my bouncing baby.  If the kittens get a prospective brother or sister along the way, so be it.  OFF-SPRING CUTE!!!!!!

Pacita - Drink that wine and vote, no particular order ;)  I'd probably love your Father.

Kathy - You were a Woodstock Graduate, I'm betting.  Not a big fan of Hippies but have a soft-spot for the Philosophy.

Laura -  Yeah, somewhere along the merry day that Jason guy has a legit point:)

Sardi, the hostage takers didn't get that much. They did show the country they would be willing to destory the country in order to spite this president. Tha will not sit well with Indys anywhere.

The true goal of the GOP aka the Get Obama Party is to keep the economy weak through the election next year. Their "Sherman's March to the Sea" plan is no different than when Perry in Texas cuts the firefighers budget then tells everyone to pray for rain. Are these the legislators we want in office?

Eventually, everyone will see through their lies.

People will REMEMBER in 2012 * I AGREE with Nogui; however, this president was NOT "presidential" and that will be remembered.  The Independent voters have already left the building and it is NOW a house of cards!

We elect these assholes to do a job. We expect them to act like adults and work in the best interest of the country. Instead, they don't care one whit for the country. They play games of political oneupmanship and only care about scoring points so they can win elections and keep making money. It's no wonder so many folks are frustrated.

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

The greatest trick Congress has pulled is to convince the American public that the crisis was the Debt Ceiling/limit.  The Crisis is the Debt not some artificial "limit" to it.  When you max out your credit card with limited ability to repay, is it the creditor's fault for setting the limit, or is it your fault for getting in over your head?

We've kicked the can so far, so long, it is now the can's turn to kick back.

Great job Teaparty! You showed that Obama a thing or two! Too bad you tanked our coveted AAA rating, but who cares right?

Jason -- We agree on one of your points. The MEDIA is responsible for fanning the flames of conflict. Our freedoms depend on having thorough investigations of the issues and HONEST reporting of the findings. We now have a press that does neither.

Nogui -- The problem with the rating stems from irresponsible spending by BOTH parties for a very long time.

The TEA Parties did not make the problem, they only delivered the message: STOP THE SPENDING!

I care about my children and grandchildren as well as the other that come after. I want them to enjoy the freedoms that we had 50 years ago. None of the prosperity we have left will be there if we are slaves to the debt.

We are doing everything we can to drive the politicians to cure their bad spending behavior. If the bad behavior of spending too much does not stop, we will be sure to replace the big spenders.

I'm with ya, John.  But the Tea Party Constituent should stick to Fiscal Issues ... because I dare say they (as a whole) are way out of touch with the Social Ones.

Sorry to join the party so late, but I wanted to chime in.

The debt ceiling is a major discussion because we have hit a 14.2 trillion mark. Both political groups grew government and both parties are to blame. The end result of the talks was a real disappointment.I believe Rand Paul's solution was the best idea. I am disappointed with both the Ryan and Boehner. It looks like they didn't get our message last November.

I was part of the first tea party (Ron Paul's presidential campaign) and I can tell you that personal liberty is not out of touch of every American. You are free to be whatever you want as long as your actions do not directly affect other people. How awesome of a message is that??

Good morning Jason,

I agree that the media is wrong in the majority of the "news", as they are so blatantly biased in their views. However, I do believe that enough is enough with the debt and we must get on track with responsible spending and reality.
