It was a gorgeous hot sunny British Columbia Day (August 1) on Cowichan Lake today and I took a day off work to take full advantage of the slower paced life around the area with a bit of faster life on the water!
Great water skiing on Cowichan Lake.
The little town of Lake Cowichan (pop. 3,118), is located at the eastern end of Cowichan Lake, a spectacular region of natural beauty and eco-tourism, with camping, hiking fishing, swimming, water-skiing and boating of all sorts. Everywhere was alive with all age groups this long weekend. It's a great recreational area with the south arm of the lake boasting the highest average summer max. temperatures in Canada - over 24 degrees Celsius.
The Lake is 34 km (21 miles) long, with 150 km of shoreline and 163 metres above sea level; it is one of Vancouver Island's largest lakes.
One of the small islands on the Lake.
The Green Cowichan Society offers sustainable tourism workshops for businesses, tourists operators and other groups. Participants are provided with tips and techniques with which to brief guests and to take corrective action.
So whether you visit to enjoy the crystal clear waters of the Lake as an outdoors enthusiast, or you want to visit the ancient Carmanah Walbran forest and hike the West Coast, you're bound to love the area.
End of the day on Cowichan Lake.
