Well, it looks like everyone has recovered from Handy Week and is ready to go again, based on the list of events for today!

First, general event information: The Shoals Culinary Complex has partnered with Professional Chef Kevin Kilburn to offer a wide range of cooking classes.  Chef Kilburn is a graduate of the International Culinary Schools at The Art Institute in Nashville, Tennessee.  Chef Kilburn’s classes will allow you to develop efficiency and confidence in the kitchen. A complete list of classes is available at www.shoalsec.com.  Pre-registration is recommended as class sizes are limited and will fill up quickly.  For more information, or to register, contact the Shoals Culinary Complex at 256-764-0044 or 256-760-9014

At lunchtime today, Hugh and Caleb Banks are dong an acoustic set at McGraw’s Coffee House. No admission charge, but I know they would like it if you bought lunch or a goodie while you’re there.

Fantastic Fridays at the Florence Senior Center are 1st Friday of each month through the December and offers daytime dancing and games from 12:30-2:00 PM. The Brown Band will play. Bring light finger foods to share. There is no admission charge, but tips to the band are appreciated. Contact Fran Davis, Florence Parks & Recreation Department, 256-760-6420.

Downtown Florence First Fridays starts at 5 pm tonight. Come on out and see all the artists and craftsmen, listen to some music, and see all your friends! The music lineup tonight starts with Elle Claytor at 5, followed by The Hideous Strength at 5:40, Bell Adair at 6:20, The Bear at 7:15, and John Cartwright at 8:30. The stage is set up on Mobile Plaza.

The Wine Seller on Court Street is having a wine tasting from 5:30-7:30. Admission is $10 per person. No reservations are required.

Cake/Prize Walk for Melissa, sponsored by WOTM, will be at the Florence Moose Lodge on Chisholm Rd. beginning at 7pm. Prize donations are welcome. Taylor McClain and her team “The Taterbugs” have a page set up to receive donations please visit swimformelissa.org and search on the right hand side for her by name .

The Daniel Smith Memorial Concert is tonight at Riverfront Park in Sheffield. Tickets are $10, with proceeds going toward efforts to make a low-head dam on Cypress Creek safer. Daniel Smith, 22, died June 29 when his kayak overturned while crossing the dam. Groups featured: Pine Street Jams, of Florence, and The Lauderdales, of Tuscaloosa. Additional groups are being lined up. Ticket information: 256-394-8419.

Seven Points Sound has a lineup of live acts tonight starting at 6 pm. (Doors open at 5:30). Admission is $8. Between 6 and 10 pm, you can hear The Crimson Purge, Beware the Neverending, Rejoice the Awakening, The Maple Key, and Screaming Prophet.
