Last week I decided to just get away from it all. Living in the middle of a disaster area, having lost my home, my office, my investment property, and much of our personal belongings, it's been hard to concentrate on much of anything other then the flood that took all of it away.
We choose to drive the 2002 Taurus (our newest vehicle) because of the three vehicles it is in the most reliable condition. The AC is out in the RealMan Grand Caravan plus the driver side window no longer works and we were in the midst of a heat wave last week. The 1999 Kia has so many small problems that I never go more then 50 miles out of town with it (but I really like the car).
We loaded up the Taurus and took off... the AC died.. oh well. It was a good trip down. No whining from the kids and it only seemed to be me that need to stop along the way (to much coffee). What was really amazing is we got 28 miles to the gallon on the way and I don't believe there was a strong wind behind us. Once in Fargo we got the AC fixed so we could have a more comfortable drive home.
So what was my excuse for making the trip? Despite all that has happened to us in the last few months I, Robert L. Timm, just can not go take a vacation because I need one, no I have to throw in something work related. Here is what I did on my Mini-Vacation:
With out getting lengthy about the event I just want to say what a nice guy Stefan Swanepoel is. The presentation was held in the beautiful, historic, Fargo Theater. Mr. Swanepoel is an excellent speaker and he answered every question asked of him during the presentation. He stayed after the presentation and signed books. He stayed even later and just plain visited with anyone who wished to visit. I visited with him, one on one, for about ten minutes. I told him that I was familular with him thanks to Active Rain. WOW, he is so thankful to all of us AR's he really sung our praises. It was fun!
My mini-vacation also included thrift store shopping (wish I had brought the van and a trailer), lots of dining out (time for a diet), and visiting with family, and 4 days of not answering the phone.
I liked it enough I just might have to try something like this again. I'd hate to make a habit of it though as I just took a vactaion 15 years ago.
