What do Buyers Want?

Real Estate Agent with Riverside Homes

Home builders and developers have sought to answer this perplexing question by sifting through the informationWhat do Buyers Want? gleaned from focus groups.  I have been part of Focus Groups, on the Developer side and found it was a very interesting process.  We selected participants who were looking to purchase a new home in St. Augustine or had recently purchased on.  We asked them questions about their preferences, showed them photographs of different architectural designs and color schemes.

It was hugely expensive and not very productive as Antigua project is still not developed. A Washington Post article questions whether these Focus groups really affect sale, or is the adage "buyers are liars" true?

Great post. I have long felt that most people looking for a home (probably me included) do not really know what they want until they find it. We set up criteria that is almost impossible to meet like:

I want a home with a big kitchen, open floor plan, big bedrooms, huge closets, it has to be 4 bedroom and 2.5 bath and no more than 2000 sp. ft. no more than XXX amount of dollars and a huge back yard with privacy on all sides.

The truth is that the home we eventually find will not have all those specifics in the end we will trade off what we want for what we need.
