Dating, Marrrying, Partnering With Someone In The Same Real Estate Species.

The number of real estate agents, brokers, REALTORS that court and spark, date and marry within their species.

cupidOther real estate professionals on the team as a wife, husband and is all the lively discussion about short sales, listing presentations and how to edit that latest video ?

Talking shop at work, off the clock with another in the real estate profession. How often do you think it happens and what are the chances of success?

The positives, negatives of two "R"'s under one roof.

Real estate is described by many as an affliction, a sport, passion or a disease. It is a highly emotional experience for the buyer, seller and the guy or gal wearing, sporting the "R" too.

You either have the fire in your belly about listing, marketing, selling real estate or not. It consumes you in a good or bad way depending on how deep you let it take you.

Real estate, it excites or bores the heck out of you. Not a lot of in between.

If we did a survey of Active Rain bloggers, how many husband and wife teams, literal marital partnerships do you think there are?

Where two "R"'s make it right, better.

Where two test positive for the "R" gene.

We know two zebras can not get along under on marketing roof. But a husband and wife team both on the front lines, in the real estate trenches duking it out... how often does it work from your experience?

Other interesting findings would surface from an Active Rain survey of the membership too. The real estate markets where a concealed gun permit, toting some firepower is the norm for listing in rough and tough certain areas. Or adding, adjusting a holster for the fully charged taser before opening the three dead bolts and venturing out for another action packed, never a dull moment real estate day.

Where you list and sell, twist and shout about real estate can make a big difference on the approach too.

Dear Andrew,

That would be the ultimate test of a relationship, no? That and remodeling a house together.

John and I were married before we got into real estate.  We got into it at the same time and have been doing it for over 7 years now.  We do work together but we also have our own clients too.  We sit next to each other all day long in our home office and I can't imagine my husband "going to work" and "coming home" at night.  It certainly is a different life though!

Michael .. Teaching others all your know, letting them help you tighten up weak areas of your real estate arsenal too is a good thing. When it works, clicks. Two heads when on the same page, pulling together are way way better than being an army of one.

Dorte ... Wall paper with someone. Do a kitchen. It can be fun, easy or not very pretty. I'm just saying when one is measuring and taking a little extra time and the other is getting frustrated and saying just slap it up there and do it in a build a straw house little piggly wiggly hurry.

John and Kathy ... Like growing up on a Maine farm, you see the family, spouse, mom and dad all day long off and on. You get to know each other better because you are working together and understand what the other is up to, doing because you are on the same work treadmill, at the same list, market, sell gym exercising to make a living destined for the same household pot.

Before I was in Real Estate I once had an "Office Romance" way back when I was single.  The emotions and things are very similar.  You spend a lot of time talking about work, Passion for the job, just spending time together, often there is a mentor relationship involved.

However, I think you have to have something beyond the job to hold you together.

Great post with lots of discussion.  You are really dealing with two seperate issues.  The quaility and quantity of ones work as a businessperson/realtor and the quality of the relationships with another human being.

My wife is starting to help me out/be more involved in my real estate career.  Only on the marketing side of the business.  That is her strength and background.  I'm good at the strategic side of marketing, but my implementation skills are weak.  We'll see how this works out.  Crossing my fingers.  If you see a lot more blog posts, better quality, and more consistent then you will know it is working.

I haven't seen anybody really mentioning this though.  It is really nice to have a diversified sources of income.  A regular paycheck and awesome benefits really helps.

Mike ... Income is nice, often your profit is in your expenses and how creative you can be with shoe string productions that yield big returns because they are not like the rest of the herd. Take a different path, see the market, bounce off each other's strengths, weaknesses and seek balance, harmony. And fun, you have to be amused and please with the results most of the time otherwise it is like work, ho hum, hum drum.

When I was married, we were both involved in real estate.  It helps when your partner understands the demands of RE on your time.

Brian ... Some comments indicate the same job can cause problems. But you are not trapped in an office, pinned to the wall by a real estate desk when you list and sell, twist and shout about new properies. Are out moving around the local community and not bumping in to each other. Thanks for the response.

Don't be a hound dog, to a heart's that true. Real estate wants all of you, is a jealous master and spouses not wearing the R could get down right jealous. Ouch.

I am SOOOOO glad that my wife is not involved in real estate.  I have enough difficulty as it is setting aside time for family activities, and my wife is a housewife.  If she was on the go too, we would never coordinate our schedules, and might as well be roommates.

Matt ... Thanks for weighing in. Talking shop would be a big part of the lights out, drifting off to sleep you think?

Gary ... Different paths, holding hands and two channels for employment. Seperate but together, sort of. Thanks!

K and K .. K. Good point. (scribbling) B-o-u-n-d-a-r-i-e-s. Got it. Shut if off. Off that conveyor belt and give it a rest already.

W and J ... So, became real estate vampires together... one can not blame the other for dropping the shoe first or getting me in to this crazy business, sport, addiction. Interesting! Thank you! New post to build on this. Dating, real estate and matchmaking connection.

The problem with rules that it should be customized for two specific people with different backgrounds and different luggage of hits&misses. The more you can connect to a person or a house, the more you are willing to compromise or work on win win solutions.
