I absolutely REFUSE to participate!

There’s so much negative press today about the economy and instability of it. I just can’t participate! Of course it’s important to stay informed about the facts necessary to go out and do business each day. However, the rest of it is just rhetoric to draw in readers, listeners or viewers. If I get caught up in the gloom and doom of it all, where will my mind be and how can I possibly help anyone?

Here’s what I do know…

Someone in my marketplace is going to buy or sell a house TODAY and it’s my job to find them.

What are the necessary facts? flowers

· Interest rates could go up. Even at 1% increase, they’re still ONLY 5% to 5.5%! Ok, I can handle that. We’re nowhere near double digits.

· Prices may drop some more. Well, they’ve been falling for 5 years and our average price is still over $300,000. It’s now that much more affordable for buyers coming into my market!

· Rental income is up for the third year in a row. Talk about affordability. With low rates, low prices and plentiful income, why would anyone wait to buy?

So based on this…I REFUSE TO PARTICIPATE in negative banter. This country has been in recessions, depressions, and other major economic turmoil before and we’ve always survived. Every day I go out and do my job and my clients and I will be winners!

Ilona - with the stock market taking a beating this week investors are looking for somewhere to place their money ..... while some are going into treasury bills or gold others are looking once again at real estate ..... Real estate investing offers a great opportunity to leverage your funds, which has its own risks ..... one should buy with sound financial goals and objectives and weighing those risks carefully.

Hi Ilona - I agree. Ever since the market changed and everyone started their doom and gloom I have refused to participate, and I feel that a positive attitude goes a long way. Congrats on being in the finalists even though you didn't follow the specified contest formula and wrote a more general post. It's all good!

If you believe what you hear on the news, you'd conclude no one will ever again move into a bigger home, downsize, relocate, divorce - the list goes on. Good economy or not, people move! And you're right, it's our job to find them.

Wow! I was totally surprised that a group of my AR peers chose this post to be in the top 5! In the midst of Hurricane Irene cleanup it's very welcome news.

Things here are busy as my office flooded and we're all working hard to get guests back into the area for their much deserving vacations. So, I apologize I can't respond to each comment at this time.

Please know each of your encouraging comments is making it that much easier to get through this transition. I plan to have more good news to post once I can sit down for a minute!
