Riverside School Board - Facing A New Financial Reality
In light of the budget restrictions facing the school districts parents maybe interested in attending the Riverside Unified School District Board of Education Meetings or by downloading the taped video at www.rusdvideo.org. As Tom Torlakson, Superintendent of Public Instruction, stated we are in the midst of a "financial emergency for California Public Schools." In view of the $44 million cut from the General Fund by RUSD circumstances are critical.
The meetings occur on the first and third Monday of every month.

The board meetings are open to parents, staff, students and community members concerned about the educational system in Riverside. The five member board is a governing committe with policy making authority and a four year term. August 15th is the next scheduled meeting two weeks prior to the first day of school on August 29th.. On June 20, 2011 the Initial District Budget Presentation was released along with charts entitled "Where our funds come from" and "Where does the money go." Just as in real estate the budget crisis in Education has become the new reality. Now maybe a good time to pitch-in, think outside the box and keep the city of Riverside and our educational sytem moving forward.
