If You Don't Want It, What Makes You Think The Buyer Does?

I know that moving is hard work. After our last move, I informed my husband that I'd rather burn down the house than have to pack up and then unpack all of our belongings ever again. I can't imagine how much harder that would have been if we were forced to deal with items left behind by the previous owner, but I see this happen all of the time.

Junk desks

If you don't want something that's too big, heavy, bulky, old...whatever...chances are the buyer doesn't want you to leave it behind in your home or garage or shed either.

We have seen people leave behind old furniture, dried up paint cans, scrap wood and other various things they either couldn't or wouldn't take with them to their new home. What a buzz kill for the excited new owners to pull up and find out that they have junk that needs to be either hauled to the curb or picked up for donation.

Some items, like hurricane boards, are welcomed by New Orleans residents. But all of those other things? Not so much.

When you are preparing to move, please take the time to dispose of all of the stuff that you no longer want or need. We'll recommend that the seller of your new home do the same!

Some times sellers really do not care and just walk away. I had a two thousand grinding machine left in a garage once. The seller said, "Oh I thought the new owner might want it" It took four people to get it out.

I have to agree with you. If they wanted it, then the buyer would of asked for it.

Sometimes sellers are not available to deal with the stuff and leave it to their Realtors to handle.  I have to admit I have a few items in my outdoor furniture collection that were saved from a trip to the dump.  lol

Hi there Lisa, it is always fun here with snow covered ground half of the year. Kind of like Christmas with some homes (trying to see what is under the snow).

Then, you have the folks that have to put in the contract that 'personal items in yard to be removed after spring thaw' due to them being frozen to the ground.

It is never boring!

Jacque & Larry, I never considered items being frozen and not being able to remove them!  That just made me laugh out loud!!  Thank goodness we don't have that issue here.

Hey there again Lisa, crazy isn't it? Just think of that unknown bag of food enveloped in the glaciated ice at the bottom of a freezer. Yep, that about describes it (except there is not a hair dryer big enough to thaw the yard out)!    ha :)
