I love to watch my younger son play soccer. He's a pretty good center striker and when he starts running toward the goalie, I swear I can see the poor kid flinch, because there is no way he's stopping the ball. It doesn't usually happen more than once or twice a game, sometimes not at all, but when it does, man... it's exciting!
For reasons that I really don't understand, as good as Max is, he does not want to play on the school team. He says he wants to concentrate on his school work. I can't help but think there's more to it but that's all I'll get out of him. His choices this fall were a recreational team or the school team. All of his contemporaries are playing travel or for school or both. Max is two weeks too old to play with his friends on the travel team. You can't be born before 8/1/96. Max is a July baby. In order to play travel, Max would have to play with the 16 year olds and since there is no team of 16 year olds, they wanted him to tryout with the 17 year olds and I wasn't crazy about that idea. Max didn't want to play rec because he felt none of his friends would be on the team. Sadly, I resigned myself to a Fall without watching my favorite player.
The other night I received an email from the B team coach. For some reason they are combining travel teams with another club and the birthday cut off is not an issue this year! Max has been invited without trying out to play for the Gunners, the Greater Chester Valley Soccer Association B Team. It's not the A team, but who cares! He was recommended by a former coach and I was jumping up and down and more excited than Max was!
Tonight is the first practice and travel is a pain with a realtor's schedule, but I am so thankful to be able to watch him run across the field again this year, arms pumping, taking aim and Bam! Right in!
Wishing you and yours a wonderful rest of the week!
Carpe Diem!
