It you haven't heard and are lucky that you haven't gotten a fine, as of July 28th, 2011, Chicago has a new curfew in place.

  • Weekday curfew for minors (12 - 16 years of age) are to be off the streets by 10 p.m.
  • Weekday curfew for minors (under 12 years of age) are to be off the streets by 8:30 p.m.
  • Weekend curfew for minors (12 - 16 years of age) are to be off the streets by 11 p.m.
  • Weekend curfew of minors (under 12 years of age) are to be off the streets by 9 p.m.

If the curfew is violated, the fine can go up to $500 or community service.

Repeated offenders, three offenses in a 12 month period are subject to a $1,500 fine AND community service.

As you can see, Chicago has cut the curfew back by 30 minutes and while there are alot of curfew violations out there, there are fewer then in the past.

Remember, this is to keep our children safe here in Chicago and to give them a controlled schedule.

I wish this was the fix all to the shootings in some neighborhoods but sadly it isn't.  Thanks for the reminder.

That sounds practical - why should minors be out that late anyway?
