HDR - A Better Way to Photograph Properties in Cypress TX

I'll admit it - I am a camera geek.  More specifically, a Nikon camera geek.  I am always looking for a better way to showcase my listings and HDR or High Dynamic Range photography is one of the best ways to accomplish that goal.  I don't think there would be an argument from any real estate agent if I said that high quality property photos are the most important aspect of telling the story of our listings.  Yet, the lack of quality in listing photos amazes me.

HDR photography, in simple terms, takes a series of images where the exposure is varied.  I usually take 9 shots, because my Nikon D300s allows it.  The images are taken with exposures varying from -4, -3, -2, -1, 0 (normal exposure), then +1, +2, +3, and +4.  This results in a set of images that are almost black (-4) to almost pure white (+4).  If you are taking a view of a family room, the almost black image will have the brightest details properly exposed (perhaps the view outside the windows).  The almost white image will have the darkest shadows properly exposed.

The images are gathered up in software and merged into a tone map file. With a little tweaking and Photoshop magic, a great image is developed!

My software of choice is Photoshop with Nik HDR Efex Pro.  It is certainly not a cheap solution, but if you truly believe that great listing photographs are the best ways to market a home, you may want to look into learning the craft.  Or better yet, hire a photographer that knows how to shoot HDR photos.
