Got your backpacks ready? Got plenty of school supplies in stock? Getting geared up for the upcoming Tax-Free Week so you can get that school wardrobe spruced up? If not, you'd better get with it because it's Back To School time once again! While kids everywhere are dreading the end of Summer Vacation, their parents are giddy with anticipation at the prospect of a quiet house once again.
Here is a listing of important dates in the Meriden Public Schools for the 2011-12 school year:
August 31 : First day of school (Due to Hurricane Irene)
September 5: School closed for Labor Day
October 7: Professional development day, school closed
October 10: School closed for Columbus Day
November 4: End of middle/high school marking period
November 8: Professional development day, school closed
November 10: Report cards issued in middle/high schools
November 11: School closed for Veteran's Day
November 23: Shortened day (End of elementary school marking period)
November 24 & 25: School closed for Thanksgiving holiday
November 28 - December 1: Report cards issues in elementary schools
December 26 – January 2: Christmas Break
January 16: School closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day
January 20: End of middle/high school marking period
January 27: Report cards issued in middle/high schools
February 20 - 24: Winter Break
March 9: End of elementary school marking period
March 19 - 23: Report cards issued in elementary schools
March 30: End of middle/high school marking period
April 5: Report cards issued in middle/high schools
April 6: School closed for Good Friday
April 16 – 20: Spring Break
May 28: School closed for Memorial Day
June 12: Last day of school, shortened day
The first five days lost due to weather (snow days) will be made up at the end of the year. Any days beyond that will be made up at the end of April vacation period.
