"Software developers don't think like Realtors."Lenn

HA!  Dave knew that.

I'm sure he also knows that neither do lenders, loan officers, home inspectors, buyers, sellers, appraisers, title companies, real estate lawyers, and a few more.

I call the Top Producer CRM tech support line pretty often when I can't figure out some of their non-intuitive functions. I really should keep track of my questions as a basis for evaluating the functionality of my next choice of Realtor CRM system. I give Top Producer the benefit of the doubt and assume it's a user malfunction rather than a design flaw.

Often their answer is "that's a good idea, we'll tell management to include it in a future release." That must be a mandatory sign hung in their cubicles.

Can't Do That

The other day I called them asking how I can get the property name to show up next the contact name in a basic view. I got the usual answer; "Can't do that."

A Stunning Statement!

After a few minutes of discussing possibilities of workarounds the tech guy simply said their developers don't think like Realtors.

That I already knew.

Lenn, I have learned to use Outlook because if the programmer at Microsoft can't think like me well then at least I don't have to pay extra for it.  Nice reblog

Software developers can design their products to meet the demands of their target audience. If they don't there will eventually be alternatives.

Unless a business thinks like their customers they will lose their customers.

Top Producer was never an option for me since I use mac.  They wanted me to use parallels and said it was"worth it."  I said "NO - its not!"  Anytime you use windows on Mac - it works, but its clunky and SLLLLLLOOOOOOWWWW.  I think sometimes less is more.  If the program does everything including the Tango - chances are it is not user friendly.

Hi Lenn - It doesn't matter what industry software developers are developing for.  A lot of applications do not take into account the way the users work.

I don't think like a realtor, but over 20 years ago I went to NIRE to get my real estate license to I would have a better understanding of where realtors come from!  That has helped too!

Deb.  Me too.  I am not a sucker for every "new and better" system, software, widget, gadget, etc.  Thank goodness.

Daniel.  Unfortunately, some have gone on for decades.

Lou.  Usually true.

Ruthmarie.  Indeed.  When I get to some of the web sites wherein the agent has used every widget known to man, their site crawls or is inoperable.  How much business do they get from it?

Marc.  Indeed.  They don't do user research.

Jay.  You do, when necessary, think like a Realtor.  You understand the synergy between the home inspection report and the Contract of Sale better than most.

In too many organizations , too many times the tail , i ths case developers , wag the dog. Everybody needs to know in an organization it is not about them, it is about the consumer and the product.

Charlie.  Indeed.  The tech folks need to serve the agents so the agents can serve the consumer.

Lenn,

Thanks for the reblog.

I purposely put my post in "public" status under the hope that someone from Top Producer is monitoring social media and may improve their system. There have been many Top Producer critics on Activerain, but haven't seen responses from Top Producer. Missed opportunity for them and their customers.
