In Stamford, CT the students of Rogers International School are gearing up for the first day of school on September 1st. This brings to mind of a great commercial for an office supply store with parents pushing a cart full of office supplies to Andy Williams “It’s the most wonderful time of the year”. The parents are followed by unhappy children walking slowly. Yes, it’s back to school time. While my children are enjoying the last nights of summer, I am busy thinking of school uniforms, the list of school supplies and extra-curricular activities needed for the first day.
So as I gather the package from school and begin my list of things to do, I thought I’d share the following:
Uniforms – a blessing from above. No more arguing in the morning, it’s a choice of khaki or navy. Got to love it! You can purchase uniforms on-line at www.itownstore.com/RIS . The good news is that there is a sale running until August 15. If you order by then you can receive the clothes on the first day of school. Don't forget the school emblem. 
List of school supplies – I can help with the second and fourth grade. Second graders should bring: a pencil case (2-3 pencils), 2 erasers, a box of crayons, and 1 glue stick. This will be kept in the homeroom. But please add for class supplies (which are given to the teacher) – a box of pencils, 3 glue sticks, a pack of index cards, a box of tissues, 1 container of Lysol wipes and a class snack (preferably something healthy). For the fourth graders: 1 box of tissues, 1 large box of pencils, hand sanitizer, Lysol wipes and at least 1 large Pink Pearl eraser. As we continue to have a great school community – additional class donations are appreciated.
As for the extra-curricular activities, there are plenty to choose. There will be a list of enrichment classes forth-coming during the school year. My kids have participated in Learning Chinese, Tap Dance, the Community Service Club, Arts and Crafts, and Girl Scouts. We started a Brownie Troop last year. Dare I say Girl Scout cookies anyone? We had a blast.
