Ewwwww, is that chewing gum on the wall? (Seattle landmark)
So there is this secret place in Seattle. Just down the way from the Pikes Market where they throw the fish. If you are looking at the front of the market, there is a ramp on the left side that heads down a lower level. Kind of looks ominous, but believe me, you should go check it out! Go down the ramp, turn left and go up one building and there it is on the left side. It is one level below the market.
Patrons waiting to get tickets to the theatre would stick their gum and post coins on the wall... The theatre scraped the wall twice but gave up when it became a tourist attraction.
Thousands of pieces of chewing gum stuck to the wall, making a mosaic of colors and styles. When the wind blew, I could smell the sweet scent of watermelon flavored hubba bubba… No, not really… But it is pretty neat looking.
What was even stranger, is the many people that seemed to be coming from nowhere taking pictures next to it, placing their own gum on it and even some kids going up and touching it (yea, ewwwwww). I hear that it is a popular site to get your wedding pictures at!
I only found it when I was using foursquare and a few people were checked in on it, so I mapped it and headed down.
So if you are in Seattle, and the space needle is not you thing… Then check out the ABC gum wall.
