(BETHESDA REAL ESTATE) Or in other words, a typical real estate transaction in Bethesda! That's actually how I describe my job when someone asks me what it's like: one series of problems to solve after another. Some larger and more complex like negotiated home inspection items that were a surprise to all and some small like the buyer wants the white Pottery Barn cabinet in the bathroom. It's all about negotiation at every level.
Understanding up front that it will be a series of issues is one thing but it's another altogether when the seller is confronted with these, in an already emotionally charged environment. Even in the best of situations this causes distress and an increased level of stress. Recently I had a very successful sale of a home in Bethesda with terrific sellers and very qualified buyers. Yet, there was friction because the process has bumps in it that as as a real estate agent in Bethesda I both expect and understand how to work through but for the parties to the transaction they are living it for perhaps the first time. And it has the added intensity of so much money and hopes and dreams on the line. Luckily, I know how to keep everyone talking and focused on the larger picture so they can get past the hurdles. The small problems one might think are the easiest can sometimes be the undoing of all of our hard work, though, so I never discount how real the feelings are!
The goal is to get all the issues worked out well before settlement so that day can be a happy finale to the problem solving that went on beforehand.
So if you wonder what I'll be doing tomorrow, consider this. I have a lot of problems on my desk! But I'm up for the challenge and know that we'll work through them... You are depending on me to do so.
