Old Dairy Barn

This well preserved dairy barn constantly reminds us there was a time when farming of many types, including tobacco, was the mainstay of the Prince William County economy. It is located at the junction of two major roadways and is almost totally surrounded by commercial activity.

There is still a lot of farmland in Prince William, but tobacco is no longer a "cash cow". Dairy farming carries on, but certainly to a very much lesser degree than when this barn thrived.

Karen, This is a nice localism post. I love the picture. It is a great reminder of the days when there were many farms .

Own a big old barn and that one is in good shape. It does not just happen and needs money poured in to keep it the original beauty that it was, still is.

That is a beautiful photo, Karen.  That barn is obviously well-maintained.  Just beautiful.

Karen, bank barns are the thing here in Dutch country. I love old barns and covered bridges, something we have a multitude of here in Pa

Gerry  We're a little short on the covered bridge supply - our southern winters were milder  :)

I love to look at the old barns and such when we drive through the countryside. They are so picturesque. It's sad to see so many farms that were the back bone of our area disappear but your right dairy farms are still quite abundant in Virginia.

Karen, I've seen a couple of very old barns I want to take photos of...just haven't been able to make the stops.

Karen - What a beautiful old barn and it appears to be in excellent condition.  You don't see may brick barns.
