Wanna do business with a grump?

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Gold, Fair Oaks

Wanna do business with a grump?

Not me!  I was listening to a news report on the radio that was discussing the economy.  They introduced a woman by name who said, "I'm a Realtor and I'm tired (she sounded miserable).  I want to retire, but the economy will probably not improve for years, and the real estate market is a disaster, so I guess I'll have to keep working for a long time."

Oh boy!  I know I would not want to spend much time with that lady.  She depressed me just hearing her for a few minutes.  Maybe her business is depressed because she is depressed.  Sales are being made, so the trick is to find Tired and grumpy does not make sales!out how we can get our share of those sales.

Be the light for buyers and sellers who are afraid of the scary world of real estate, and try to make it fun and easy for your clients.  Stop moaning and groaning, try smiling, and you will attract a lot more people to you.  People like to do business with people they like and with people who can ease their fears.

Clearly we want to be honest with our clients and not paint a false picture, but my goodness!  Prices are low, interest rates are historically low, there are all kinds of great programs to help with environmental upgrades, and many local areas have grant programs, down payment assistance, and other wonderful ways to help buyers.

And what makes more people be able to buy will therefore help sellers to sell more quickly.  Since most sellers will be buying another home, they will save on that purchase too, and perhaps take advantage of the same great buyer programs - it's good all around!

Wake up, get happy and excited about the opportunities available to us and share the great news to potential clients!  If you plan to mope about and complain, you will still be moping and complaining years from now, while others will be having a great time helping people with their real estate needs.

Susan - I may not wake up happy about real estate every day, but when I'm talking to people about real estate, I stay in a positive mode.  I feel sorry for that agent - she needs a serious vacation.

Hi Susan, Your post makes great common sense as well. What ever obstacles there are, must have a good plan and a willingness to overcome them. Being positive and having the firm belief in the idea that homes and land are the nation's greatest and most valuable resource is I believe the right one. Owning it is and has always provided security and longer term prosperity. The market, financial and business changes we have encountered while I feel they were brought on with blind greed, could never undo the basic most value asset of our communities, states and county and that is the land and our ability to own it.

Susan - LOL at Pam's comment about a vaca.  I was actually thinking this woman needed to find another line of work but I could see where a vaca could also help too.  Whatever she does, she needs to stay off the air so as not to tarnish her reputation anymore than it already was by that segment.

What got me was that they gave her name, so there will be folks who will know who she is.  I agree with Donne that she needs to stay off the radio until she has an attitude adjustment!

William and Pam - A positive attitude will get you so far that you will forget that the conventional wisdom says that the market is bad.

If your area MLS has a Masters Club, I'll bet it does have members and more new members each year, so things aren't so bad for everyone.  Real estate will always be a great long term investment.

With all the negative media blah, blah, blah we need to be the positive lighting bolt jolting buyers and sellers to take action so a positive goal.

Susan, being a Debbie Downer is not good for any of our lives. Life can beat any of us down but we have to find ways  to infuse light back into ourselves.

I agree with Ross #6, media is doing too much harm to RE industry. If they shut up being negative thing will improve much faster.

I never want to get that way and that is why I have even dropped clients that are depressing and referred them out.
