Yes, I do seem to pick up leads in the oddest places. This is now the 2nd appointment I got at a gas station. The first one was last summer and we were both getting gas and he saw the magnets on my car. He is a landscaper and one of his long time customers needed carpeting.
Of course, for those of you who follow my blog, you know I got pulled over by the cops when he thought I was talking on my cell phone and he told me it wasn't legal in my county to use the magnets unless I had commercial plates, so now my marketing has been a tad inhibited.
Well last weekend, I got gas and the guy pumping my gas saw all the samples in my car and said, "no way...I'm looking for hardwood flooring." He is moving into his first home and I met w/ him 2 days ago. When he told me had that flooring place from TV, I knew I could beat their price and of course exceed their quality. Hoping to hear good news from him in the next couple of weeks.
Also, yesterday, I was in Starbucks in Briarcliff (what else is new?). I was teaching someone to blog on Active Rain and the guy sitting next to me (who I've seen in this Starbuck many times and admiring the large sticker billboard on my computer. Turns out he is a real estate investor and in a while, he may have a large job that I can bid on.
I guess you never know where leads can come from. And, it's so much better when they ask for your services (rather than you asking them if they need help). So, my general advice is do whatever you can to visually communicate what you do...wear your name pin, try car magnets, computer wraps, etc.
Compliments of The Flooring Girl.
