Weed or Flower?  As a child, Queen Anne’s Lace or Wild Carrot

was one of my favorite wild flowers.  So ethereal in appearance but

tough as nails – even growing by the side of the road, with no water

or fertilizer from a gardener’s hand.  Just Mother Nature spreading

her bounty to the fields and by-ways of Michigan.

As an adult, I respect the perseverance of this tough customer.

A few of these plants are allowed to mature in my gardens every year.

Because I have a soft spot for this lacy rogue and it brings back

happy childhood summertime memories.

Memories of icy, cold lemonade, burgers on the grill, and a vase

of wildflowers for the picnic table on a hot, July day.  Memories

of softball games in the front yard,  rides to the Tastee-Freeze

for ice cream cones after supper, and chasing fireflies and

star-gazing after darkness finally fell.  No doubt about it, Queen Anne's

Lace is a flower to me.

Ronnie and Terry,

Whether a weed or a flower, it is beautiful regardless.  Love your poem and reminiscing.  Summertime is very special. A

I feel the same way about morning glorys. I think they are great flowers in the early day but when it comes time to cut them back they are ferocious about taking over something. ( J ) great picture.

Thanks Allen, my morning glories are gorgeous this time of year but you are right, they tend to take over.

Bonnie&Terry--It looks like baby's breath...I would let a few grow in my garden too. Great photo!
