Although I haven't been as public about it as Alan (really? a daily total on each blog?) but I've been losing weight since last March. I guess the winter festivities really added up this year. I also noticed some disturbing belly fat....I've always had a flat tummy and this was a concern, as I approach 50 years old.
But.......this week I bought skinny jeans in my skinny size!!!! Whoo hoo!
This time I avoided the cabbage soup diet, the "I don't eat anything at all" diet, and my favorite....the 9-Day Wonder Diet (which is truly a wonderful crash diet). I just ate less and moved more.
Who know this was the way to do it?
So I've been on the watch out for low-cal options at restaurants. I even have a cool app for that. I feel so hip.
One of my favorite restaurants is the California Pizza Kitchen in Mission Viejo. I know that pizza doesn't sound like it's very low in calories, but there are a surprising number of ways to enjoy the restaurant and stay in your diet budget. For instance, several of my favorite salads are under 500 Calories each. Of course, these are the half portions, but that's plenty of food for most of us.
Roasted Vegetable Salad with Grilled Shrimp 394
Cobb Salad with Ranch Dressing: 469
Caesar Salad: 253
Chinese Chicken Salad: 331
And there are pizza options also. Entire pizzas are about 1000-1200 calories and you can save 20 calories for honey wheat, 104 calories for gluten-free crusts and 172 calories for the thin crust. Often my husband and I will split a salad and a pizza....with him eating 2/3s and me eating 1/3 of the pizza. Real bargin for lunch or dinner. Sample:
Half Caesar Salad and Thin Crust Roasted Spinach and Artichoke Pizza, total of 1572 calories and my portion is about 472. Love it!
So dieting doesn't mean suffering with cottage cheese and iceberg lettuce. Head to the California Pizza Kitchen in Mission Viejo, get some pizza and forget the guilt at home. I love to!
