2011 Hastings County Farm Show and Plowing Match!

By
Real Estate Agent with Century 21 Lanthorn Real Estate LTD., Trenton, Ontario

I was fortunate to spend part of Wednesday at the 2011 Hastings County Farm show and Plowing match. Our office had set up a tent, and like a good agent I went and did my shift there, handing out freezies and balloons and talking to people who were interested in agricultural properties. I even managed to get a lead from my 3 hour shift, so it was definitely worth the drive to Tweed, Ontario.

There were over 250 exhibitors on hand, this is one of the largest farm shows in Ontario, so lots of people came out.

I will admit that I really don't know a whole lot about farms and farming, however, I am learning. I just sold a farm this summer, and it's very different from a residential real estate transaction. There are so many other factors to consider, andf it does require quite a bit of specialized knowledge.

It was a very warm day, but fortunately we had a nice tent set up, and there were a lot of food and drink vendors on hand, so fresh lemonade was readily available. I was also very interested in looking at what some of the exhibitors had to show. Farming equipment is very high tech these days, so it was interesting to see some of the newer equipment on hand. It was quite fun wandering around and talking to people and I did learn a whole lot. I have a lot of respect for the farming community in Ontario, and this show gave me a better insight into how they go about bringing us all that wonderfully fresh Ontario produce.

I didn't get to stick around for the plowing match though, I had to get back to the office for the afternoon to meet with some clients, but if I had had the whole afternoon free, I would definitely had watched.

When my shift was done, Evan Hendry came to replace me. I hope he managed to get a lead or too as well, Century 21 Lanthorn was the only Real Estate organization with a tent there, so chances are that he talked to quite a few folks.

The agent in our office who was responsible for setting the whole thing up and doing the vast majority of the work was Kimberly Colton (in the first picture - handing out freezies to some Ontario farm girls), so a big thank you to her for asking me to come and help out for a while. I really enjoyed my time there. It's good to get out once in a while.

HI Malcolm,

Love the country farm shows, they are always lots of fun, not sure about their business benefit, but you always talk to some people in any event, and as such they are good community support events.

I saw the field that we have been reserving for the ploughing match next weekend in Beeton, Malcolm.  Your event seems to be much more than a ploughing contest.

Malcom, It was a great day and a good learning experience. Specialized field is right. Farm pricing varies greatly depending on many many factors forein to residential real estate. I did hand out a few business cards!

Peter and Linda, I guess as long as I'm out there talking to people, it can be a business benefit. It was a nice day as well.

Chris, it was a full farm show withn all kinds of exhibitors there.

Janice, getting out and meeting new people is something that I sometimes have to force myself to do.

Evan, I'm glad to hear that you got a few cards into the hands of the public.

Malcolm - speaking of farm shows and plowing matches ..... I woke up to a very cool home today, only 60 degrees, a sign that fall is not far off and with it comes all the fall fairs.

A plowing match? Are you serious? I'm having a hard time visualizing what they do at a plowing match but I sure wish I were there to take some pictures!
