Beware of where you buy your gift card!

I received this from a friend and wanted to share with everyone. We ALL  need to be careful around the holidays.

Gift cardThe crooks have found a way to rob you of your gift card balance.

If you buy Gift Cards from a display rack that has various store cards you may become a victim of theft. Crooks are now jotting down the card  numbers in the store and then wait a few days and call to see how much  of a balance "THEY" have on the card. Once they find the card is  "activated", they go online and the shopping begins.

You may want to purchase your card from a customer service person, where they do not have the Gift Cards viewable to the public.

Let's all share this with family and friends!

Thankyou for that info. I was planning to buy some gift cards from that type of display.

Margaret, thank you for sharing this. Several of our local stores sell gift card on a rack, so this is a good warning.

David, Thersa, and George. I am hoping it saves some people from being dissappointed.

I had my concerns about posting, thinking it may give the "cons'' more ideas.

I thought you were going to talk about the "declining balance" on some gift cards where the merchant charges for nonuse. Never thought about this one, but will be sure not to buy from a display.

Hi Maragret,

That's a brilliant idea! Crooks just get smarter and smarter. I would have never thought of that. Thanks for sharing and warning us about this.

Geez.  Thieves can charge on a gift card that they don't even own and my credit card calls me to verify a lousy $10 domain renewal.

It's like doing a body search on a great grandmother at airport security.

Sharon,Bryant and Lenn, thanks for the comments. It made me aware of the displays in the stores. And Lenn, you are right we get checked for $10. Guess we could learn from the crooks.

As mentioned before, I was concerned about mentioning this because I did not want to give the crooks more ideas. A friend told me that the crooks don't read AR.

Tonight Fox News had the full story about crooks and gift cards. It was nice to have it on AR before the media!!

Crooks don't read AR? I suspect the bubbleheads would beg to differ... :)

Came here just to write "nice post" on everything, but I can't seem to do it!
