If Folks Don't Value Your Time They Certainly Won't Value Your Relationship!

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Tutas Towne Realty, Inc and Garden Views Realty, LLC BK607690

Get off me!!Time. Mine is valuable. Is yours? One thing that agents struggle with is being in control of their time. How often have you popped out to show property at the last minute? Or had to cancel a personal event because one of your customer/clients needed to see you? What about the Buyer who can only look at properties every other Saturday from 4-7 pm? Do you work with them? I don't.

Here's a fact. There are NO real estate emergencies.

Here's another fact. You will NEVER be caught up. There will always be another call to make. Another website to update.

If you want to have lasting success in this business and avoid burn out you MUST get control of your time. Work by appointment only.

Don't let others dictate your schedule. Don't do same day appointments. Just let them go. It will save you a lot of aggravation in the long run. If people don't respect your time they will never respect the relationship. That's a fact.

Let folks know at first contact how you work and when you work. People will appreciate knowing these things up front. If your schedule doesn't fit with theirs then just let them go. We can't work with everybody.

Once you set boundaries with your time a funny thing will happen.....you'll start attracting people that will work within your time frames. And because of this you will be less stressed and you will become better at what you do.

Do you believe that? Well even if you don't it's still true. You just need to trust me on this one. Can you do that?

Do you need a new Broker?

I'd comment, but it's after hours, and time to read books to my little one.

That makes perfect sense, Bryant. we cannot be slaves to anyone else's time frames and expect to live, much less thrive, in this business.

Tammy shared a blog (but what if I have plans if a client calls) that indicates she takes a vastly different approach on this very subject. I share you sentiments Bryant. How can we appear as professionals when we treat our business as flighty, and disorganized. I can assure you my physician, attorney, accountant, etc., doesn't drop everything when I call. Instead it is customary to schedule time to meet.

Good Post- I agree to a certain extent. If the client is pre-approved and ready to buy I will try and make time for that buyer. I have had many pre-approved clients that have bought homes in this " buying mode" on the same day I have first met them. But a prequal is a must. and you can never forget to ask the most important question....are you currently working with a realtor?

BB, I almost feel too guilty to tell everybody what I do on weekends. . .I certainly do not have a typical real estate  agent's  weekend.

Valuing your own time gives you a lot more control over who to use your time with!  Life is much better when you are in charge.

BB, I used to be a pop tart, jumping up to go whenever the phone rang. Now that I've gotten wiser, You're  right, there is no real estate emergency.

A basic principle which makes sense. But I it works better for folks who have what they consider to be enough business. I recently got a listing because the agent I was competing with, did not work evenings or weekends. He was unable to arrange a time to meet the clients. It was not a high priced property, so he had no problem letting it go. I, on the other hand, was willing to meet them in an evening and got the listing. Someday I will be in the place where I can say no, but right now I have the ability to be flexible in order to generate more business.

Yep! I am always surpirised at how urgent others needs are and how invaluable my time is to them. Just common consideration for others would be helpful. My time is just as valuable as theirs and business etiquette is applicable her too! How do we train consumers? Don't let them do it!

I do Real Estate like I played polo-to WIN!

I agree with setting boundaries.  I will push them out sometimes if I feel it will pay off to me in some way..not just money..but I am REALLY firm about turning off the phone at 6 pm.  Dinner, then relax..period!  I am NEVER caught up..ever!  THanks-

It's only an emergency if we allow it.  It's called balance and harmony and I kind of like it.  Glad to hear the TLW is doing better.

It is so easy in our business to be pulled three different directions at any one time.   I especially like your idea of taken no same day appointments.  I have been caught up in these rush appointment with very little results.
