Independent School District 196 classes start in just a couple weeks.  The day after Labor Day, or the day after the State Fair ends, will once again mark the beginning of the countdown to June 8, 2012, the last day of classes.

The entire school calendar is posted online at the District 196 website.  Check it out here:  school calendar.  The school year is 174 days long for the students who are counting, and there are only two months, April and May, with more than nineteen days of classes.

Plan your getaway weekends now if they include reservations of any kind.  The teacher convention break will be Thursday and Friday, October 20-21.  If you are planning a fall weekend, you are probably not the only one.  Likewise for the Thanksgiving, winter (including the federal designated holidays of Christmas Day and New Years Day) break, and spring break.

The summer issue of Spotlight, the district newsletter, contains information on this year's breakfast and lunch prices and the modest increase in price, the new free bus transportation distances, and the prices for optional transportation for students who live closer to school than the new distances.  Electronic copy of the Summer Spotlight.

School District 196 has a well-deserved reputation for excellence in educational opportunities and achievement.  It is also a leader in innovative developments in planning and cost containment.  Congratulations to parents, students, and other residents of the areas served by this superb school district.

To the students of the district, work hard, play hard, and be proud of the opportunity you have to make 2011-2012 the best year of your lives.  You are following and becoming a part of a legacy of notable accomplishments.
