Walton County, Florida
Walton County is located in the Northwest quad section of the Panhandle of Florida. It reaches from the Alabama State line to the Gulf of Mexico and to the county line to the West in Okaloosa County and to the county line to the East in Bay County. The highest point in Walton County is Britton Hill which is 345 feet above sea level. Along the 30A corridor in South Walton the highest point is Blue Mountain Beach.
The County is 1,238 square miles and includes 180 square miles of water. Eglin Air Force Base covers 20 percent of the County’s Land mass.
The Choctawhatchee River is a vital part of the ecological health of Walton County. It is the third largest river in the state and feeds into the Choctawhatchee Bay.
The Bay covers 52,000 acres and is an important resource for county residents. The Bay is used for recreational purposes such as fishing, dolphin watching, boating and commercial fishing. It is not uncommon to see large barges traveling through the bay carrying cargo through the Intercostal Waterway.
The water alone accounts for 5,320 Acres in Walton County.
