Pay-it-Forward - Sharing ICE

I just programmed my phone, and my husbands with ICE numbers.  We had them in our older phones-- but needed to put them in again with our iPhones.  Make sure to update your phone with you "in case of emergency"  numbers, it only takes a second.

While sitting in a salon chair, the person cutting my hair told me about her friend who died in the hospital after being in an auto accident.  The family is suing the hospital for not calling the family prior to his death.  The family is very upset they did not get to see him in the hospital before he died.

The hospital called the following day after his girlfriend awakened from a coma.  The girlfriend told the hospital employees who to call. Absent that, the hospital did not know who to call.

We do not think about these things happening to us or perhaps happening at all. The simple solution is ICE.  The person who cuts my hair did not know about ICE.  I proceeded to explain to her it stands for In Case of Emergency

cell phones

Most cell phones have ICE programmed to be at the top of the contacts list.

The Blackberry I recently donated to the e-waste recycling did not have ICE programmed. For phones that do not have ICE programmed simply place ***ICE*** before the name and after the contact you want called in an emergency.  For example: ***ICE*** Kathleen Daniels***ICE*** or ICE plus the phone number, including area code.

You may list more than one iCE number. Simply number ICE as follows:  ***ICE 1, ***ICE 2, and so on.  Number them in order of priority ... who you want called first!

Before I knew it, five other patrons and their hair stylist were moving toward us to listen in on what I was sharing with the person who cuts my hair.  I have known about ICE for many years. It’s difficult for me to imagine that anyone does not know about ICE.  No one in the salon had ever heard of ICE!

They all pulled out their cell phones and looked for ICE on their phones. Everyone said they were going to program their phone and have their family members program their phones as well.

Everyone needs to program their cell phone with ICE numbers. Emergency personnel look for ICE numbers on cell phones.  How would anyone know who to call in an emergency? Prior to ICE I placed a label on the back of my Driver's License with all the contact information of who I want called.  Now I have both.

I also contributed $700 to close a short sale.  I would have done anything to be done with the Bank of America FHA short sale department … well, almost anything! $700 was a small price to pay to put an end to the 17 months of frustration.
