At the theater I recently saw the movie The Help. It reminded me a lot of bloggers first off cause it was about a writer. A 23 year old frizzy haired out of college white woman gal named Skeeter who wrote about the stories of individual racism encountered by black maids working for white families and raising their kids in the 1960's.
Aibileen, one of the main character maids and Skeeter's first story to interview for in her book had an endearing scene over and over in the movie. It involved a little girl called Mobley May, the daughter of the woman Aibileen works for.
She raised her with imprinting in her mind three sentences, over and over and over again, having her repeat them back to her. They were to raise her self esteem and give her a solid foundation in her young life. They were:
"I is kind. I is smart. I is important."
I thought with so many adults broken deep into their lives from a sense of feeling good about themselves, it may serve as a good reminder for all of us IN ADULTHOOD about our worthiness. We should be kind to others. We are smart enough to do what needs to be done. And we ALL are very important. No other person is more important than us.
Sometimes a few words are very powerful.
