MRSA - THE SUPER BUG...is becoming a big health issue. It could affect you as an agent!

Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Fort Lauderdale Beach

MRSA...THE SUPER BUG...Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus. MRSA is a strain of Staphylococcus aureus that has become resistant to the antibiotic methicillin.

This is a deadly disease that is usually confined to patients in hospitals. Wash your hands...keep open wounds covered and if you have an injury and it is streaking - moving away from the wound in a red line...see medical treatment immediately!

With all the hand shaking, touching door knobs and the like...we need to be especially carefull with what we touch. Keep alcohol wipes with you and use them...this is a deadly infection and should not be taken with a grain of salt.

Prevention is always the cure...

Be safe!

Karen, from what I'm reading on the Web, there's a paradigm shift going on in medicine about how we deal with bacteria.  We can't just keep on trying to develop newer and better antibiotics to kill off the bacteria that have become immune to whatever we were using yesterday.  In the meantime, they say hand washing and basic hygiene is the best response.

My daughter and brother have had this it is not only hard to get rid of, it is very painful! And once you have it, it is yours to keep, you can break out with it over and over if your immune system is down. I cary hand sanitizer in my car and my purse.

Pat and Eric,

I worked in the medical field for 25 years, most of the time in hospitals as a Director of Nuclear Medicine.  My ex-husband is an ER physician up north. In the hospital environment we do yearly training on this specific issue.  Usually if caught early it takes 3 antibiotics to cure this bacteria.  Definitely be careful...even with the antibiotic's people are dying from this...

Be very careful...2 school bus drivers in Fort Lauderdale were pulled from duty today due to the infection.  We just had a large influx of people from up north for the football game...and this is where this started - up north.  The first death I heard of was in VA...

You never know where the hand you are shaking, shook before you...

Scott and Jennifer,

You are right.  It is a horrible bacteria to deal with and you are lucky if you get well after you have been diagnosed!

It is nice to see that this infection is finally starting to get the attention that it should.  I am currently being treated for this and it is definitely no fun.

I've been reading about this lately and agree, it's very scary.   I remember when my boys were small, when they got a cold we treated with home remedies unless there was an infection.  Now everyone runs to their family doctor for antibiotics for every little thing.  No wonder immune systems can't handle the tricky nasty stuff.

This is a good post Karen...unfortunately,too many people do not use good hygiene..so we need to be on top of it.I know I wash my hands many times a day and have anti bacterial stuff in my car.

Kim,

Thank heavens your physician caught and treated you correctly the first time...sometimes it is the last.

Best of luck to you for a quick recovery!

Kris,

You are right about that, but I really think that physicians have stopped handing out antibiotics like candy like they used to...for just the reason as posted here...you eventually become resistant to them and then when you really need them...the are no longer effective.

BLR,

Great idea, I have a bottle of anti-bacterial lotion in my purse. I also use the paper towel that I dry my hands with in the public restrooms to open the door, so I don't get the germs from those who forget to wash...

There are 3 children between Miami-Dade and Broward Counties in Florida who are ill, and 2 school bus drivers.

Scary situation.
