This business never ceases to amaze me, but recently, I had to fight the frustrations of unwarranted negativity from another agent. It's nothing personal, and it's not even my deal, but I wonder why people often take that trip to negative town.
Ticket Sales Clerk: "How can I help you today?"
Angry Real Estate Agent: "I'd like a one way ticket to negative town, non-stop flight please, departing asap."
Ticket Sales Clerk: "Are you certain?"
Angry Real Estate Agent: "YESSS!!!!!! NOW!!!!! AAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!"
If you've done enough deals, and have years of experience in this business, I'd like to think that you'd seen it all! Extensions and delays, lenders asking for increasingly ridiculous things, clients on vacations, dogs eating contracts, and maybe even a natural disaster killing a few of your deals.
In a typical transaction, everybody wants to close the deal. We are all working towards the same goal, right? Seller wants to sell, buyer wants to buy, lender wants to lend, and so on down the line. So take it from me... There is no need to book that flight to negative town. Instead, try donning a smile and sticking it out.
And if that fails, feel free to take a page out of my book, roll up your sleeves, and get to work. With enough energy and dedication, I've never failed to close a deal where everyone was committed.
Hence my unofficial motto: "Making Deals Happen."
