Yarrow the Legendary Healing Plant

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with North Sky Realty LLC 6502410580

The herb Yarrow has a long history as a healing plant.  It is a legend that Achilles used this herb to heal wounds of soldiers during the Trojan War.  In fact Yarrow was used as a healing herb on the battlefield up until the Civil War, where the plant was crushed and applied to wounds.  Its properties were said to be very effective in healing wounds from iron weapons.  The Latin name for Yarrow is 'Achillea Millefolium' and its name is a tribute to the legends surrounding this well-known healing plant.

Today, Yarrow is a popular addition to many herb gardens.  I have some growing in my herb garden at home, as it grows well in Michigan.  The colors it is commonly seen in is white, yellow and pink, but there are other varieties as well.  It is interesting to note that despite the progression of modern medicine, nature still carries on and offers plants that serve a purpose.

I have some huge, yellow yarrow growing in my garden, and the cream/white kind grows wild here. Large, pretty plants. I know people who swear by the tea for flu or colds, but I don't like hte smell and won't try it.

I didn't know they came in pink, Michael. It probably would be lots less expensive if we could use the herbs instead of some of the manufactured medicines. Nature gives us function and beauty all in one.

Interesting information.  Do we eat yarrow or apply it to our wounds?
