Purchase the American Red Cross 3 Day Deluxe Emergency Preparedness Kit or put together your own kits with the following items:
FlashLight (batteries)
Water resistant radio-(batteries) or hand crank radio
Blankets
Can foods or food bars
Can opener
Work gloves
12hr light sticks
Towelettes
N-95 breathing mask
10 x 10 plastic sheating
Tent or tarp
Rain poncho
Roll of duct tape
Emergency water
Water container 2.5 gallons
Whistle
Personal first aid kit
Hygine products
First aid and emergency preparedeness guide
Extra Cellphone batteries
Cellphone charger and solar charger
Extra laptop/notebook batteries
Garbage bags
Sandwich bags for cash, ID, medical insurance cards, list of medications, medications
List of facebook and Twitter contacts incl email addresses
Your personal telephone book
Coin-quarters- when cell towers are down you may find that payphones and landlines are working
You should have two kits keep one at home and leave the other at your work place. Parents should pack mini kits for their children.
Always keep a first aid kit in your car
