Our Sunday Adventure in the Mountains of Oregon, Mt. Hood to be exact

Mt. Hood National Forest

Our First View of Lost Lake

Sunday, a hot day in the valley, my husband, my dog Henry and I decided to drive up in the Mt. Hood National Forest  to an area called   "Lost Lake".  We had a guide book and decided to go with what it said.  You know I think the people who wrote the book had no idea of how to calculate the mileage as they were off by about 35 miles.  We were going the back way as we had no idea there was another route, a little more direct, but not as interesting.

The road has lots of twists and turns, became very narrow, indeed a one lane, potholed, dirt road climbing higher and higher into the Mt. Hood National Forest. There were times when we wondered if we were on the right road until we came across a dirt bike off road competition and got directions of a sort.

Finally we reached the fork in the road that actually became paved highway and we were not far from our destination.

We thought we would be at a lake that was not crowded and were we ever wrong.

Where did all these people come from?
The way that we had not traveled.

However, what a beautiful lake and a walk that circles the lake.  We all loved it, what a day!

Mary,

Nice post. Thank you for sharing the pictures.

Good for you for going out with your husband and pup and enjoying the beautiful back country you live so close to. As managing broker, which I've done before, it's super important to have balance in your life and spend quality time with the family and in nature.

I've never been to Mt. Hood but you pictures have piqued my interest.

Thanks again.

Hi Bill,

I am so glad you enjoyed the photos, I had a lot more but had a little difficulty getting them onto the post.  It is so very important to have the balance in one's life and sometimes that is difficult to achieve.  I hope at some time you can visit the Mt. Hood area.  There are many things to do both summer and winter and Portland is not so very far away.

At this time of year, Hood River which is on the back side to Mt. Hood, is abundant with all of wonderful fruits such as Apples, Peaches, Pears, and so many other fruits.

I have never been to Mammoth but would love to visit. We used to ski but don't anymore but would love a visit.  Thanks for taking a look.

Have a really good day

Mary

Mary~ Some beautiful pictures of Mt. Hood.  So sorry you quiet adventure ended up off path and full of folks.  We too have a Lost Lake, I suspect there are a lot of them.  For us its a 3 Hour + drive to the Trail Head and a 6 Mile rigorous hike.  If you see someone up there it's rare and you respect each others space.  Headed to the Mountains in the morning, hope its quiet.

Hi John,

I hope you have a great time when you are in the Mountains and I hope it is quiet for you too. Our "Lost Lake" is quite the attraction and many people go to get away, but I must say if one wants peacefulness meaning not many people and lots of quiet, it is not the place to go for that. I have a feeling on the other side of the Lake it may be different.

We too have several Lost Lakes, I wonder who it was that lost them. LOL  Have a great time.

Mary - I've only seen Mount Hood once, but it left a lasting impression on me.  The cloud formations in one of those photos are intriguing!  You did a great job capturing some memorable photos.

Good Morning Myrl,

Thank you for looking at the photos, I was very intrigued with the clouds that day.  They looked almost like a funnel and kept changing, but the depth of roundness was amazing.  Almost like a cornucopia.

Hi Mary, can you hike to that lake?  I might be mixing up Lost Lake and Mirror Lake...I've been to one of them, but I thought you had to hike in...I may have to check out Lost Lake before summer's over. Great photos.

Hi Debb,

You drive right up to this lake as it has campgrounds both day and night I believe. It is a beautiful hike around the lake approximately 3 miles, so not difficult, but cool and beautiful.  There were lots of people the day we were there, which I am not fond of, but the beauty made up for it.  I do hope you go, and if you do the easiest way is up I-84 to the Hood river and Parkdale turnoff.   There are excellent directions on the site above "Lost Lake".  I know there is a Mirror Lake as well which I do not know much about.  Have a great weekend.
