Be the Diane Sawyer of Blogging

By
Real Estate Technology with ActiveRain

In recent days following the earthquakes (thank goodness everyone is okay) the analytics have proven that earthquake searches are being sought far and above any other topic.  People are searching for timely information that they must know NOW!

What does that mean for you?  Well, to be blunt, you should be on top of your game.  With Hurricane Irene set to hit this weekend, the search engines are buzzing for info.  We all know that much of the country will be affected and the other half will be keeping their eyes peeled for updates.  You should be known in your community for having up to date information, facts and resources.  You should be the go to person for every happening far and wide.

The below terms were heavily searched when the earthquakes hit.  Replace earthquake with hurricane and you have:

  • Hurricane preparedness procedures
  • Hurricane in *state*
  • Hurricane *state* *date*
  • *state* hurricane today

People are in need of the information and you can give it to them using AR as your platform.  Tweet, Facebook, RSS feed your posts out there.  You are more than likely helping someone in need.

We wish for everyone's safety and good thoughts are constantly coming your way!

To get an audience to listen to you, you must put yourself in their shoes, view the world from their eyes, and talk about what's important to THEM.  Oprah Winfrey has a knack for doing just that!

I guess Hurricane Irene people can flee to AUstin if you're ok with 105+ degree days and no rain in sight!

Ruby - It's up to you to report on your area and become the go-to person for the people in your community.  Write about local happenings and also world wide ones.  It's a blank canvas!

I can't tear myself away from the weather today/tonight.  I never thought there were folks out there who would want to see hurricane info on my little ol' blog.

Great ideas - it's exposure to your reading audience.  If every time a reader looks something up on the internet, you are there. they will then begin to just go to your blog instead for info   .....

I recommend setting an annual calendar date to review emergency  event preparedness. Plan for power outages. What are you going to do IF..., and then make what preparations you can.

You can just change the disaster. The preparedness is still the same. Water, food, batteries, some sort of battery operated Radio and flashlights. First aid supplies just in case.

I thought about this the other day. Blogging on topics that were hot on the news for that day and throwing in some local key words to concentrate it for my area. Do you think it is a good blogging practice?
