I think a lot of people on the East Coast are still skid-dish from the Earthquake on Tuesday. After my post about my earthquake experience, I felt a little foolish since folks on the West Coast are pros. So I am sure I will get some flack from my friends in Florida and in the South about my hurricane post! It's all good!
My fellow East Coasters are preparing for Hurricane Irene, my friends and family are on overdrive still from Tuesday's earthquake excitement and now we have a major hurricane to deal with too. The news has 24 hour back to back coverage on what people are buying at the grocery stores and hardware stores and what we should prepare for the worst. So I thought why not write a quick post on what I plan on doing to prepare for "Hurricane Armageddon":
1) Fill my gas tank up. If the power is out for several days, the gas stations will not be open either and the pumps will not work.
2) Fill my tub with water so I can flush toilets if we do not have water.
3) Have a battery operated radio on hand so we can listen to any emergency instructions and also have fresh batteries for my flashlights.
4) Have cash (small bills) on hand since the ATM machines will not work either if the power is out.
5) Have non-perishable food on hand since we will not have a stove or microwave if the power is out.
Bonus:** A bottle of wine to drink so I can relax during and after the storm.**
There are more things you should do but I think this will get me through the weekend. On a serious note, here is a link to NOAA for more information http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/HAW2/english/disaster_prevention.shtml Stay safe!
