Are You Working Hard Or Hardly Working?

BusynessHave you as a worker during your "work time" been honest with yourself and asked truly to your self some days,

"Are You Working Hard Or Hardly Working?"

It is an area of thinking of our highest income producing times if we are putting in the effort to get real work done or just FEEL BUSY. Today with so many distractions it is EASY to feel busy, even overwhelmed with work YET get nothing of value done that is effective and productive to EARN INCOME. Prioritize your day with those INCOME PRODUCING activities. Stay AWAY from the busy work or put that stuff down at priority #5 or #6 IF you get to it at all.

This is one area you have to have strong discipline with yourself cause no one is watching you every minute of your day. If you want to be objective about what REALLY happens in a week, write a time log by hour from Monday to Friday writing down your activities and review at the end of the week. It might really surprise you. It is not that you are lazy it is just EASIER so often to do the non-productive stuff.

Stay on point, THINK what are you doing, and you will be fine.

I'm working hard, however, I think I can always work smarter. Thanks for a good reminder Gary.

Gary, great reminder.  I hate having those days where I have stayed busy the entire day but wasn't sure what I accomplished at the end of the day.  I hope you have a great weekend.

Staying focused on the highest and best use of my time is always top of mind for me.  Its so easy t oget sucked into the easy tasks and push off the tough ones.  However, it's often the tough, not so fun tasks that make us the most money or offer the best results.

Gary, I always like the 'prepare to go home' time slot. That usually is very productive time frame. We will stay safe this weekend! I just did a hurricane Irene blog post!

Gary,

With so many of us working from home, I'll bet there are more than a few, including myself, who could do a better job managing our time.

Ah yes, the DISTRACTIONS!  There are days when it feels every task is a moving target!  This was certainly one of 'em!  The working at home thing that Richard speaks of is a double edged sword.  When I focus on the things at hand, I can usually accomplish a great deal.  But the temptation to slack off can sometimes be great.  What I notice however, is that distractions are rarer.

Gary,

Coincidentally, a few days ago I was thinking about how different my life might look if every morning when I started work I'd punch the clock and really held myself accountable. Hmmmm.....

Time is a big thing these days, I agree with Mike, you need to have a time slot for social media and AR!!!

Gary, I like your idea of writing it down, I've been limiting my time on AR, I enjoy it, but it's not necessarily "productive"

Income-producing activities. That is the key. If it's not making you money or leading to making you money, then you probably should not be doing it. Unless it involves petting the cat. You should always obey the cat.

It's easy when you work for yourself to get trapped in busy work that doens't produce business.  That's what happened to me.  If I ever decide to reactivate my license I've got to not get stuck in wormholes.

Gary I need to start putting unexpected things on my schedule everyday. Sometimes something unexpected comes up and it can totally throw off your day and prevent you from getting other things done. Making better use of my time is something that I am still working on. Thanks for writing this Gary.

Definitely been working hard at prioritizing things better as far as my work load is concerned. Guess I was doing a good job of staying on task because this past weekend the ring around the toilet bowl indicated I'd been neglecting some other areas. I have no idea how people ever have full time jobs, successful marriages, and children...
