Hurricane Irene Update Sunset Beach, NC
The worst is over for the Sunset Beach, NC area.
Miss Irene Hurricane left us a little soggy but without any major damage.
The Bridge from the mainland of Sunset Beach to the Island is open to the public.
Police Chief Massey reports little to no damage on the island or mainland.
Shelters will remain open today for those without power. Sporadic power outages have been reported.
Some portions of Highway 17 have some flooding issues but it is not closed. Take extra precaution if traveling Highway 17.

I'm glad it was not worse for you. Coastal living has its good points, and there are some weather-related risks. Hope the rest of the hurricane season is uneventful for you.

Karen~ Thanks so much for posting this morning. As I watched the reports from last night, all I could think about was you and Frank. I was happy to hear from your Governor that it appeared that the damage wasn't what had originally been feared. Relieved to hear all is well!!

Todd ~ We love the beach but like anything else it comes with its negatives ~ Hurricane Season ~ Sorry, but we would much rather have more sunshine, warmer weather, golf and the beach less than a mile away than snow, ice and blizzards ~ Just sayin'
