Congratulations!! You Are Now A CTA!!
That's the subject line of a message I received last week, letting me know that I passed the test to become a Certified Tourism Ambassador. As a volunteer at the new Addison Visitor Center, I am an ambassador for the Town of Addison. The wise folks at Addison Town Hall want everyone who comes to the Addison Visitor Center to have a positive experience. Visitors are then more likely to return and they're more likely to share positive impressions with their friends.
The process to become a CTA was not an easy one, but it was fun and educational. Prior to the class, we had homework; we had a pre-class reading assignment (3-ring, 252 page binder). At the conculsion of the class, there was a test.
The class covered topics including:
- Our Region's Early History
- Our Wild West Heritage
- Our Cultural & Ethnic Heritage
- Our Military History
- Our Aviation Past & Present
- Our Transportation, Then & Now
- Our Demographics, Past & Present
- Our Local Economy
- "Uniquely" North Texas
- Our Convention Facilities
- Our Climate & Geology
- Our Outdoor Life
- Our Influential Citizens
- Our Landmarks of Significance
- Our Sports
- Our Envisioned Future
- Our State of Texas
- Dallas/Fort Worth & North Texas Trivia
Interwoven through the topics above was information about the core attractions in the North Texas area, everything from museums and historic town squares to parks, theaters, sports events and more.
The Addison Visitor Center opens in September. Stop by on Wednesday evening, September 7th, between 6-8 PM for the open house and say "hi" to the CTA volunteers. 5100 Belt Line Road in Village on The Parkway. The building faces Montfort Road.
