Hurricane Irene is taking aim at millions of Americans. Power outages are everywhere. How do you keep cell phones, laptops and tablets charged so you can stay connected to the world?

Did you know there are small and portable solar panels that can be used to charge your devices. The power is generated by the sun. No utility company needed.

Here's a link to information about solar battery chargers. They can be life savers in times of natural disasters and other emergency situations.

This used to be such an issue for me when I was practicing real estate in FL after a hurricane. Wow, wish I had known about them then!

Vickie,

And they are cheap. Lost hikers often get found in the wood from tracking pinging from cell phones. Keeping the phones charged could be the difference between getting found or not.

Car chargers can malfunction. A solar charger is a good backup.

Many other applications.

Morning Dave, I did a post this morning regarding the vast power outages, and remembered most of us have car chargers which may help get through until power returns.

What what do you do if it's raining and cloudy overhead? How do you find the sun to charge your stuff?

Dave ... Interesting!  Great idea for all of us.  We have been subject to long power outages, this will be useful for all of us!
