Hurricane Update from Wilton, CT 06897 8-28-11

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Dagny's Real Estate

Hurricane Irene is blasting its way through Wilton, CT 06897 today - here and now.

Wilton has a lot of power outages, and the Norwalk River is cresting.

The winds have lessened now to only 50+ miles per hour.    There are trees down all over Wilton, closing the streets, and making it difficult to get around.    The Town Selectman, Bill Brennan, stated in an emergency phone message to all that it may be as long as 4-5 days before power is restored to the entire town.

The Norwalk River is cresting now, at 9:30 am on Sunday.   Bill Brennan stated that the Norwalk River may not be at its highest levels until late Tuesday.   During the day today, the river will be flooding into the parking lots in town, and any other low areas in the north and south areas of town along the river's edge.

It's nice to see the pictures from 95  on the TV - not a car in sight!

We have been very lucky, as as far as I can see around our house here in Wilton, there are no huge limbs or trees down yet.   Just leaves ...     Many hours of storm left in Hurricane Irene, however...

Dagny - my yard looks the same - all in all not too bad. However, my sister just called me from 2 towns over and had 6 inches of water in her brand new home. She's not too happy and like you said, the water hasn't crested yet as the streams and rivers keep collecting more water as they go! Glad to hear you're safe and sound!

Dagny, lucky for you that the tree trunk didn't hit the house, it might have moved it off of the foundation. Stay safe

Chuck - Thanks for checking in!  It will be awhile still here in CT

Kristine - I'm so sorry to hear about flooded basements!   Hopefully ours makes it ok.

Deborah - You are so cute to check in - we are lucky that my husband decided last spring to install a generator.   We have TV and some power.

So far, so good for my area, my parents and brother/sister-in-law are okay...only minor water in the basement.

However, I have already gotten 2 calls from customers in other areas where they tend to have more floods and I'm referring them to my friends at ServPro in Scarsdale - Hillary & Forrest.

Dave - It was worse for you today than it was for us.   BUT, that being said, we have a lot of roads that are closed due to trees down, and we have no internet, cable, or power.    Hope all is well with you!
