Retire in Pinehurst VS the Beach Areas of NC

By
Real Estate Agent with Dawn Crawley Realty

There are many reasons one would want to retire to the Pinehurst area of North Carolina. Among the most popular is of course golf!

One of the reasons that some choose Pinehurst over the beach areas of NC for retirement was highlighted this past weekend by Hurricane Irene.  Here in Pinehurst there were a few brief showers and a bit of wind, but nothing that was damaging or required evacuation. The other benefit to being farther from the beaches is the lower cost of homeowners insurance. Additional wind insurance and possibly flood insurance is required for homes closer to the beach areas and it can be very costly.

Pinehurst Area Lake CommunityOf course being farther away from the possibility of being hit by a hurricane is not the biggest reason many people choose Pinehurst for retirement. Previously I mentioned golf as that is what this area is best known for. However, there are many other activities to enjoy such as boating, fishing, water skiing, swimming, tennis, and there is a large equestrian community in and around Pinehurst. Click here to see homes in the different communities in the area.

Outdoor activities are abundant as the weather permits being outside all year round. However, there are many other clubs and indoor activities to be enjoyed in Pinehurst. Bridge is huge in the area from highly competitive games to very relaxed social games. There are also many book clubs, art clubs and a local theater club.

Avoid severe weather and costly homeowners insurance and consider Pinehurst as the ideal place to retire and enjoy whatever your passion may be.

All good reasons to call Pinehurst NC home, and you still have the benefit of water sports for those so inclined, without the added expense of additional insurance.

Anita, it isn't the same as the ocean, but it beats getting hit with a hurricane and all the extra insurance.

Hi Juli, there sure is lots to do here.

Dawn,  Glad to hear you werent affected too badly by Irene.  Golf is such a great sport.  Can't say as I have been much this summer, but I sure would like to take a break and go soon (before the snow flies).

The disruptions of hurricanes may well push more retirees to the Pinehurst area.  Most seniors do not like the idea of risking all they have to storms.  North Carolina is a favorite destination for Maryland retirees.

 Life is good!
