TREE FALLS - DROUGHT BLAMED

What is believed to be a 100 year or older tree, falls and destroys home.  With over 50 consecutive days of 100+ degrees, nature is taking its toll.

Kristina DeLeon - WOAI News

SAN ANTONIO -- A tree fell over and crashed into a woman's home early Wednesday.

Police and firefighters were called to a home on Glen Rock, near Bluemel, around 2:00 a.m. Wednesday. The homeowner heard something that sounded like lightning, then a huge crash. That crash was a massive tree breaking and landing on top of her home.

Fortunately, the woman was in her bedroom, which was the furthest area from where the tree landed.

I knew that too much rain could soften the ground and cause trees to fall but I never guessed that a dry spell could have the same effect.

She's lucky to be alive and really fortunate her bedroom is away from where the tree fell.  Mother nature can wreak havoc, that is for sure.

WOW! Cathy, that was very scary, since that was not to far from our KW office area. Glad to see no one was hurt. This drought is causing more problems than we realize.

@ Vickie - I was surprised too!

@ Anita - Yes, she was very fortunate! It could have killed her.  It happened to my neighbor's house during hurricane Eva.  They barely escaped alive.

@ Jerry - it's pretty bad, that's for sure.  Today we hit record high temps across the state!

 Thanks for your comments.

Cathy, nature is interesting you have to have the right balance.  I too thought that having too much water would result in fallen trees but a drought doing that kind of damage is new to me.  Thanks for sharing.
