Speechless Sundays: Aftermath of Hurricane Irene in Westchester County NY

By

Batteries were cleaned out in the hoarding panic before the storm

Thornwood, NY by the Saw Mill Parkway flooded

CVS was flooded and still had puddles

A tree fell on this house in Ossining

Kill Brook nearly swept this garage away when it crested

The Hudson River waterfront had oceanic waves. These people apparently don't realize that raw sewage goes into the river when the rain overwhelms the drainage and treatment system.

Hi Phil, there is never anything as sobering as the aftermath of a weather disaster.

Goodness Philip!  Something we don't experience here in the west.  Water always causes lots of after issues as well!

Phil, it does not have to be a Cat 3 or higher to cause major damage as you've shown.  The threat of high water is always going to be my concern.

Who is hoarding all those batteries? That is very funny.

The time to buy the batteries, ESPECIALLY the sump pump batteries, is before the storm!  Like weeks before!

Good morning Phil,

A great group of pictures depicting the aftermath of Irene! My husband always has a stock pile of batteries as when he buys them he buys the largest number in one pack :)!

The devastation of mother nature is quite surreal.  Pictures only share a tidbit of the reality.  I hope you all fared well and are safe.

Philip,

Looks like you made it through in pretty good shape. Love the people at the beach - so typical. :)

The aftermath is nothing compared to the folks in North Carolina and New Jersey-just a big inconvenience so I am really grateful that the sun is shining beautifully today and the water is receding.

Phil, we just got back from an extra long weekend in New York with the hurricane that wasn't.  Maybe that's what made it o  fun.
