Are you covered?

Are you covered?

Within a few days we have experienced an earthquake and a tropical storm in Maryland.  We are grateful that our home in the Kentland community in Montgomery County had no damage.  Howver, thousands of homes are still without power and many homes and businesses suffered damage.  One of the shocks that will be faced by many is the lack of insurance coverage.  Would you be protected by insurance if you had earthquake or flood damage?

It is a good time to review insurance policies and reconsider the risks that we are willing and able to tolerate. As our communities clean up the damage, it is also good time to lend a helping hand to the elderly and the disabled folks that may not be able to handle the yard or repair work.

Good morning to all. On this first day of school in Montgomery County, some schools are without power and will remain closed.  Some businesses had clean up crews working on Sunday as they addressed the damage from the tropical storm.

Some traffic lights are out and all are reminded to treat those intersections as four way stops.

 Blooming for you.

Whats amazing is you could pay the extra for flood insurance and still not be covered. Insurance is a complete rip off and the industry needs total over haul

We all need a plan for these unforseen emergencies, and if already prepared, re-check our current policies to ensure we have the coverage we need.

Roy, I'm glad your home escaped damage.  Your reminder about checking insurance is applicable to all of us, no matter where we live.  Thanks and have a great Monday.

Good to hear from you, Sondra.

A Montgomery County, Maryland insurance agent just gave me some cost quotes to share.

Earthquake coverage would be about $200 for a $650,000 home.  $2,500 deductible.

Flood insurance would run about $450 a year in a non-flood zone.  There is also a deductible.

Both policies should be available from your insurance agent that provides your homeowners policy.  And, the additional coverages are added at the HO renewal date.

 Blooming for you!

Good Morning Roy- Glad to know that you and your family are safe and doing well.  The events of the last few days here is a wake up call to residents in the northeast to did not think that earthquakes and hurricanes would affect them.  I agree with you that we must all revisit our policies before the next event strikes.    Have a safe day.  Watch out for fallen wires....

We can't get earthquake here unless we have a rider to the policy and pay outrageous premiums, especially if we want the earthquake insurance to actually cover our home and possessions!
