Termites can be a formidable threat to homes all across the USA.  It is imperative that homeowners take all the precautions they can to prevent termite infestation.  It can be costly.  Dan Edward Phillips, Broker/Owner, Eureka, CA provided some great tips in his post "Keeping the Termites Away."  Please stop by Dan's post and leave hi m a comment

Plants and shrubs planted close to a home allow a path for termites to access a home.

One way to avoid the problem in Northern California is to place a concrete walk-way, three feet wide, around the perimeter of your home.

The walk-way will need to be designed to properly "meet" the driveway , any patios, walkways etc. where they intersect to avoid any tripping hazard.

The walk-way will provide space for plants and shrubs in pots and planters and will provide a stable platform for ladders when work is done on your home (the pots and planters can always be pulled back).  In my opinion the walkway adds curb appeal and value to your home.  It will also help maintain the lawn by preventing walking on it.

The first thing to do is to check with your local building department to see what their requirements if any, might be as far as thickness of the concrete and its reinforcement.

A homeowner with some knowledge of forming and finishing concrete and a rented mixer could finish the project in several weekends.

Georgia can be especially bad for termites.  The damage can be very costly.
